AIS delivers a combined PFP and jacket solution
Samsung Heavy Industries provided a unique challenge for Advanced Insulation Korea. They required cold conservation jackets in combination with Passive Fire Protection (PFP) for jet fire scenarios for up to 15 minutes. We fully scoped the liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility, which is located offshore near Malaysia, in order to provide the most effective solution.
Our team was had to provide a solution which incorporated two concepts and combine them into one standalone product. Further to this, the application of these types of jackets was relatively new for AIK, thereby significant technical research was required to produce the best solution.
Our proposed solution consisted of Cryogenic insulation, Cryogel Z, in conjunction with our PFP jackets. The Cryogel Z insulation is installed using foil tape and vapour barriers as per the Aspen Aerogel recommended application procedure.
Aspen Aerogel provided Cryogel Z which has a lower k-value than other insulation materials on the market. Using it resulted in less material needed for the same desired effect.

The quick and easy installation of our product was important for Samsung Heavy Industries. Being able to train their employees to perform this activity in the future was a key consideration.
Our JF45 jackets have a weather protection layer and have been tested to provide up to 120 minutes of jet fire protection and operate efficiently at all temperatures, including extreme cold environments.
The Velcro hook and loop tape design allows for continued usage of the jackets during and after maintenance checks, an important feature for the customer.
