ContraBlast®
Reduce weight without compromising blast and fire protection
ContraBlast® provides lightweight, integrated blast, fire and thermal protection for critical areas across offshore, onshore, LNG and petrochemical facilities. Designed as a modular alternative to traditional steel walls, the system can significantly reduce structural weight while providing up to 1.5 bar blast protection and H120/J120 fire protection.

Benefits
Protect critical areas without the weight of traditional blast walls
ContraBlast® combines blast, fire and thermal protection in a lightweight modular system. Whilst delivering significant weight savings, it helps protect people, equipment and critical infrastructure while reducing installation complexity and space requirements.

£100,000 saving per tonne of topside weight
ContraBlast® uses a unique phenolic syntactic foam structure that offers a lightweight, space-saving alternative to traditional steel fire and blast wall systems, saving up to 60% in topside weight.

Up to 1.5 bar maximum peak overpressure
The ContraBlast® system comprises a suite of panels with optimised thickness and edge support for a range of blast overpressures. The lightweight system offers 1 bar and the standard offers 1.5 bar.

120 minutes Hydrocarbon pool fire rated
ContraBlast® is certified by DNV and BV as providing J120 and H120 protection in a prefabricated panel from either side, unlike a steel blastwall, which requires PFP to be applied once in situ.
Specifications
- IMO 2010 FTP Code Part 3 - IMO Resolution MSC 307(88), under a hydrocarbon HC fire curve according to EN 1363-2:1999
- ISO 22899-1:2009 - Determination of resistance to jet fires of passive fire protection materials
- ContraFlame® MS400 foam (at the ContraBlast® panel core) has also passed HHF jet fire scenarios for 60 minutes duration
- ISO 20340 - Accelerated ageing and weathering of the D2004 laminate system which meets the performance requirements of NORSOK M501 edition 6th Feb 2012 system one.
