CRP Subsea has been awarded a contract to supply its innovative NjordShield cable protection system (CPS) to the Jiangsu Dafeng Guoxin offshore wind farm, situated in the Yellow Sea, off the coast of Jiangsu province, China.
The NjordShield CPS will be used for J-tube installations, accommodating three different cable sizes. Designed for efficiency, NjordShield’s compact components facilitate easier maneuvering and installation, particularly in scenarios where vessel deck space is limited. Each NjordShield system assembly will be supplied with 16 metres of Uraduct®+ cable protection to traverse the scour protection before being buried under rocks, ensuring robust cable safety and lifespan.
NjordShield’s design consists of a single-piece polyurethane bend-limiting device, reinforced with an integral steel chassis and secured using CRP Subsea’s proven friction clamps. The system eliminates the need for connectors or latching mechanisms, streamlining installation and maximising efficiency. Additionally, the NjordShield system features minimal metallic parts, with integrated cathodic protection to manage corrosion risks over its lifetime, particularly for the steel chassis within the bellmouth.

The NjordShield CPS is being manufactured at CRP Subsea’s state-of-the-art production facility in the North West of England. The first phase of delivery is scheduled for March 2025, with final completion by April 2025.

It features CRP Subsea’s advanced API 17L certified Uraduct® abrasion-resistant polyurethane and can be extended to provide seabed protection across the scour extremities to the point of burial.
