AIS heads stateside with lightweight firewall solution
Kiewitt needed to protect an LNG tank on an ice canopy from fire hazards and cryogenic spill at the loading pump during the construction phase of its National Grid Commercial Point Plant Modernisation Project. The proximity of the ice canopy structural steel to the LNG tank and the in situ pipework meant a lightweight, prefinished and bolted protection wall was the optimum solution. The ContraBlast® system was the answer.

Mechanical installation (no welding)
The system is simple to install, requires no specialist labour, hot works or wet trades and provides a prefinished protection barrier.

Up to 1.5 Bar maximum peak overpressure; The Lightweight system offers 1 Bar and the Standard offers 1.5 Bar.
AIS was the chosen supplier because it was a single-source supplier, could supervise insulation and has a proven track record in rapid deployment and on oil and gas projects. AIS was responsible for the design and manufacture of the ContraBlast® fire wall that provided H60 and J60 fire protection with a blast rating of 0.2 Bar, and a cryogenic leak / spill capability. The ContraBlast® system is simple to install, requires no specialist labour, hot works or wet trades and provides a prefinished protection barrier. Advanced Insulation worked closely with MMI Engineering to design the secondary steel framework to interface between the prime ice canopy structure to support the ContraBlast panels.
Kiewitt provided their own labour for the installation, with AIS supplying local supervision. Each ContraBlast® panel was 1.0m x 2.0m per panel, which allowed for fast installation and a manageable weight of only 20Kg per panel. Individual infill panels were factory supplied as necessary to accommodate penetrations, edges and connection details. The installation time, including pipe penetration sealing, was only 18 days.
