Why winterisation matters: ContraFlex® insulation jackets

As temperatures drop, unprotected equipment becomes vulnerable due to exposure to the elements. This often results in frozen lines, reduced flow, damaged valves, and costly downtime. Maintenance teams will need to consider these challenges to reduce the potential impact of drops in temperature.

A well-prepared facility is more likely to stay operational through the cold season. If you have winterisation concerns, keep the following in mind as temperatures drop:

  • Standing water and small-diameter pipelines are most susceptible to freezing quickly
  • If unprotected, valves and moving parts may seize or fail to operate
  • Metal box-type systems can trap water and cause corrosion under insulation (CUI) when thawed
  • Removable insulation jackets are quick to install and protect equipment from the cold
  • Start your winterisation campaigns before winter arrives.

Our softcover ContraFlex® insulation jackets are made with extreme conditions in mind, delivering reliable frost and ice protection even in harsh conditions down to -55°C. They can be designed with a high integrity heat trace cable to maintain equipment temperatures and conserve heat. The trace heating element runs through the inner face of the jacket providing a uniform distribution of heat.

For this reason, ContraFlex® jackets can be used to effectively insulate pipes, fittings, flanges, valves, actuators, junction boxes, vessels and other process equipment, or adapted for plant machinery such as generators, compressors and forklifts.

From process plants to offshore platforms, ContraFlex® ensures our customers assets stay protected in sub-zero conditions.
