Installation buoys chosen for marine operations in Brazil

A new installation buoy designed to improve safety and efficiency in Brazilian offshore project.

AIS do Brasil has secured a significant contract with a leading Brazilian national oil and gas company. The contract involves the supply of installation buoys for use on various marine operations on an oil field development in Brazil.

Designed for deepwater applications, the installation buoys will reduce the effective weight of subsea equipment, minimising the need for larger, more expensive winches and enhancing operational safety. Using its engineering knowledge and expertise, the AIS Group have designed three customised variants of the buoys, each tailored to provide specific uplift values based as per the customer’s requirements.

The installation buoys feature a cubic-like design, offering flat surfaces to prevent unwanted movement on the deck of Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs). This design also facilitates easy handling with padeyes and shackles, ensuring efficient, secure and safer operations.

Guilherme Martins, Business Development Manager, states:

“This award solidifies our long-standing track record of delivering modular installation buoys. We worked closely with our customer to develop this new design, addressing their need for safer and more reliable operations. It highlights our ability to provide high-quality, dependable solutions while strengthening the lasting relationships we have established with our customer.”

The installation buoys will be designed and manufactured at our production facility in the North West of England. Engineering works have begun, with delivery of the initial quantities scheduled for Q2 2025.

Product information

Installation buoyancy serves a variety of short and long-term applications, providing weight compensation during the installation of diverse subsea equipment. It offers permanent buoyancy for mooring chains, jacket leg platforms, and flowline buckling mitigation systems.

Featuring a modular design, the buoyancy systems can be tailored to meet specific water depth and upthrust requirements. Each module is built with an engineered structural core, ensuring maintenance-free performance over its entire design life. Additionally, the interlocking male and female spigots effectively eliminate the risk of module rotation during usage.
