AIS delivers insulation covers for challenging North Sea environment
Our customer required a robust solution for flanges and bulkheads, which could be easily removed for ongoing inspection and maintenance, and installed by subsea divers. Based in the North Sea, the insulation system had to provide effective thermal insulation, while withstanding harsh subsea conditions.

Accommodate changing requirements
AIS developed and implemented a remote re-fit solution within a week due to inconsistencies found in the parent coating.
14 configurations for 70 covers
Each design had to incorporate infill ports to allow subsea injection utilising ROV and ballasts for diver fitting to prevent corrosion within the cavity.
Durable and flexible
The insulation covers had to allow for potential impact loading and abrasion resistance, whilst allowing for large tolerance variances.
Solution
AIS identified ContraTherm® C55 as the ideal solution to protect the bulkheads and flanges from the harsh subsea environment.
Its robust construction, excellent resistance to high-temperatures, and suitability for demanding subsea environment made it the ideal material for these operating conditions.
Its ease of manufacture allowed AIS to produce the complex, bespoke cover configurations required for the project.
Results
AIS successfully delivered the insulation covers on schedule, despite several additional configurations and covers being added to the original scope of work. The completed covers were subsequently installed successfully, demonstrating the effectiveness of the bespoke design and its suitability for the challenging offshore installation environment.
