CRP Subsea to supply a deepwater buoyancy solution to three oil fields in Brazil

Distributed buoyancy modules will be utilised on flexible pipe systems.

CRP Subsea has recently been awarded a significant contract from a leading energy technology company.  The contract involves the supply of over 300 Distributed Buoyancy Modules (DBMs) for three deepwater oil field projects located in the pre-salt Santos Basin, offshore Brazil.

CRP Subsea’s DBMs will be used on four 8-inch flexible production risers. These risers are responsible for transporting oil from subsea facilities to the flotation units positioned above. They will be operating in water depths of approximately 1,800 metres. By maintaining a carefully engineered dynamic lazy wave configuration, the DBMs will effectively alleviate the top tension exerted on the floating, production, storage and offloading (FPSO) units. To achieve this, a high-capacity compliant internal clamp will be employed. The clamp is intricately designed to exert a controlled and uniform circumferential clamping pressure around the riser. The clamps will maintain the DBMs position and eliminate the risk of pipeline damage, consequently extending the field's operational lifespan.

James Harrison, Key Account Manager at CRP Subsea states:

"We are honored to have been selected by a key customer to supply DBMs for these major projects. It’s fantastic that our market-leading internal clamp technology continues to be the solution of choice. This technology is renowned for minimising installation risks and ensuring the reliable operation of deepwater flexible risers. We look forward to future collaborations and the opportunity to support more projects for our valued customer."

Manufactured at CRP Subsea’s state-of-the-art-manufacturing facility in the North West of England. Project engineering works will commence imminently, with delivery due end of 2024.

Product information

Distributed Buoyancy Modules (DBMs) are typically used between structures and a surface vessel or platform, providing uplift generated by a two-part buoyancy element and a clamp. CRP Subsea’s unique clamping solutions allows DBMs to be securely attached at any point along the length of a rigid or flexible pipeline or cable and ensures the modules maintain their position.
