Environmental, social, governance
AIS recognises the importance of responsible business practices across all aspects of its global operations. With a presence in multiple countries and a diverse workforce, the Group embeds environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into its decision-making and operating model, ensuring responsible practices are central to how it operates.
AIS in numbers
800+ employees
Our large, global workforce recognises the wider environmental, social, and governance impacts of our operations and is committed to embedding responsible business practices across all areas.
Sustainability framework
AIS’ sustainability framework – Advancing Impact and Sustainability – comprises five core areas: Sustainability in product design, QHSE, Our people, Our value chain, and Decarbonisation.
20 locations globally
With locations across the globe, we recognise the environmental, social, and governance impacts of our operations and are committed to managing them responsibly as part of our ESG approach.
Environmental
AIS has invested in decarbonising its operations for over a decade, implementing energy-efficient equipment, behavioural change programmes, and solar panels at three sites. Energy use and emissions are actively monitored, with measures such as reducing electrical baseloads, out-of-hours shutdowns, and improved compressed air efficiency. The Group complies with the UK Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme and is transitioning all UK electricity contracts to green tariffs.
ISO 14001 certified environmental management systems drive improvements around resource and material use. Waste is handled by licensed contractors with full tracking, water is treated in line with regulations, and chemical handling follows COSHH and REACH legislation and best practices, with a focus on eliminating substances hazardous to health. Product application is fully managed by AIS, and all hazardous chemicals used in the production of our materials are inert in the finished product released to the customer.
AIS products further support environmental performance by improving thermal efficiency, reducing offshore construction emissions, extending asset life, enabling safer EV batteries, and increasing cooling efficiency in offshore facilities.
Social
With over 800 employees across 14 countries, AIS focuses on workforce development, retention, and professional growth through apprenticeships, graduate schemes, leadership programmes, and sponsorship for qualifications.
AIS prioritises employee safety through a comprehensive health and safety framework and the award-winning Think Safe, Act Safe, Be Safe programme. The initiative promotes risk reduction, continuous improvement, and strong safety behaviours, supporting the Group’s zero-harm ambition across all operations.
Community engagement includes sponsoring Premier Women's Rugby champions Gloucester-Hartpury and children’s sports teams, participating in annual charity hikes that have raised over £16,500 in the past three years, and supporting STEM outreach in schools. Fair treatment, diversity, and inclusion are central to the Group’s approach to workforce management.
Governance
AIS operates a strong governance framework to ensure ethical, transparent and responsible business practices across all operations.
Quality, health, safety, and environmental (QHSE) systems are in place across all operational sites. These systems are certified under internationally recognised ISO management standards: ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO 45001 (Occupational Health and Safety). These certifications demonstrate AIS’ compliance with legal obligations and industry best practice in health, safety, environmental and quality risk management.
The Group maintains comprehensive policies covering areas such as anti-slavery and human trafficking, procurement, sanctions, and supply chain management.
Key suppliers are assessed to ensure they meet AIS standards and ISO certification requirements, with regular performance reviews and ongoing monitoring to identify potential risks or issues. This governance approach supports legal and regulatory compliance and underpins our commitment to sustainability, ethical conduct, and accountability throughout our global operations.
