When exposed to high temperatures the material rapidly forms a tough char that will resist erosion by high velocity or turbulent gasses, while continuing to provide insulation to protect the substrate. Even when using the most agressive battery cells (cylindrical 46xx, prismatic >150 Ah), ContraFlame® F4- Series provides additional safety.

ContraFlame® F4-Series

Protect battery cells from fire, heat and rebounding particles

ContraFlame® F4- Series is a lightweight rebound protection foam for high density prismatic and cylindrical battery cells, offering protection during thermal runaway and extreme fire events. In the event of a cell undergoing thermal runaway, the material allows the cell to vent safely by allowing hot gases and particles to break through whilst shielding neighbouring cells from rebounding particles.

Specifications

When exposed to high temperatures the material rapidly forms a tough char that will resist erosion by high velocity or turbulent gasses, while continuing to provide insulation to protect the substrate. Even when using the most agressive battery cells (cylindrical 46xx, prismatic >150 Ah), ContraFlame® F4- Series provides additional safety.

  • Easy application and efficient replacement to pre-formed mica products
  • Cures at room temperature within 30 minutes
  • Tested and proven protection of 46xx cells and >150 Ah prismatic cells
  • Extreme resistance to flames and rebounding particles
  • Low outgassing formulation
  • Adhesion capabilities on metals allows direct application onto the cells
  • Mass-scale application tested and verified at mixing and dosing equipment manufacturers.

Optimising ContraFlame® F40 dispensing with bdtronic

Watch our video to view the optimal method for dispensing ContraFlame® F40 potting foam, demonstrated during our visit to bdtronic in Germany. Hear from Head of Sales Alex Teufl on the benefits of the solution, and see the dispensing process in action.

Applications

  • Battery modules
    • Helps contain thermal runaway within the module and protect neighbouring cells
  • Cylindrical cells
    • Provides rebound protection and thermal insulation around cylindrical battery cells, including 46xx formats
  • Prismatic cells
    • Provides protection for large-format prismatic cells, including cells above 150 Ah
  • Cell-to-cell protection
    • Helps reduce the risk of a thermal event escalating from one cell to neighbouring cells.
